Less than one third of those on RMS Titanic survived the disaster. Your chances of making it through depended on your age, your gender and your wealth.
Just under half of the 107 children on board died, but only one of those lost was travelling first class.
80% of the 1,662 men died, but only 24% of the 439 women.
Generally, if you were a child or an adult female, and travelling first or second class, you probably would have got a spot on a lifeboat and survived. ‘Women and children first’ worked for the upper classes.
